Mileage / Regen Notes
This fault indicates the DPF soot load has exceeded normal thresholds, which typically triggers more frequent active regen requests. The system will continue attempting active regens but may have difficulty completing them if the underlying cause is duty cycle related. If soot load continues to climb, the ECM may inhibit active regen and require a parked (stationary) regen to safely burn off accumulated soot. Technician-forced parked regen via scan tool is usually required to reset soot load once this code is active. Monitor regen inhibit status — if other faults are present, active regen may be locked out entirely.
SPN 3936 FMI 15 interacts with the following systems and may trigger cascading faults if not resolved promptly.
Replacing the sensor without verifying wiring continuity and supply voltage first.
Clearing codes without identifying and resolving the root cause — the fault will return.
Ignoring related active faults — cascading faults often share a root cause.
Skipping the connector inspection — corrosion and damaged pins are a leading cause of sensor faults.
Condemning the ECM before exhausting all wiring and component tests.
