P0700 — Transmission Control System (MIL Request)
P0700 is a request from the TCM to illuminate the MIL. It indicates that one or more transmission codes are stored in the TCM. P0700 itself is not the root cause — always retrieve the specific transmission codes with a capable scan tool. A basic code reader may only show P0700; a better tool is required.

Fault Overview
Any hard fault inside the transmission control system (solenoids, sensors, ratio errors, etc.) can trigger P0700. The code is a flag only. Address the underlying TCM codes, then clear both TCM and ECM codes.

Symptoms
- •P0700
- •transmission control system
- •TCM MIL request
- •check transmission light
Possible Causes
- 1.Any hard fault inside the transmission control system
- 2.Solenoid faults
- 3.Speed sensor faults
- 4.Ratio errors
- 5.TCM communication issues

DVOM Specs & Sensor Tests
Retrieve actual TCM codes. Do not diagnose from P0700 alone.
Diagnostic Flow — FSM Sequence
AI Diesel Tech enforces this evidence-gate sequence. Each gate must pass before advancing.
3 steps locked behind Technician Mode- 1Step 1 — Use a Scan Tool That Can Read TCM Codes: Use a scan tool capable of reading TCM-specific codes. A basic reader may only show P0700.
- 2Step 2 — Record All Transmission-Specific Codes: Record all transmission-specific codes from the TCM.
- 3Step 3 — Diagnose the Actual Transmission Codes: Diagnose the actual transmission codes using the appropriate diagnostic flowcharts for those specific codes.
- 4Step 4 — Clear TCM and ECM Codes After Repair: After repair, clear both TCM and ECM codes and verify no return.
Unlock the full evidence-gated diagnostic sequence, DVOM test steps, and repair procedures in Technician Mode.
Full Diagnostic Access
Verification steps, preventative measures, severity guidance, and legacy comparison are available in Technician Mode.
Typical Repair Costs
Directed by the specific TCM codes — solenoids $100–600, sensors $80–400, internal repairs $500–3,000+.
