Fault Overview

Voltage below normal or open condition on the PTO switch/enable circuit. The ECM cannot detect a valid enable signal when the switch is activated.

Engine & Platform Coverage

Vocational and PTO-equipped platforms

Symptoms

  • •PTO switch open
  • •PTO enable low voltage
  • •PTO won't turn on
  • •Power take-off circuit open

Possible Causes

  1. 1.Open switch contacts
  2. 2.Open or short-to-ground wiring
  3. 3.Unplugged connector
  4. 4.Failed body controller output
  5. 5.Blown fuse on enable circuit
  6. 6.Incorrect switch wiring

Diagnostic Flow — FSM Sequence

AI Diesel Tech enforces this evidence-gate sequence. Each gate must pass before advancing.

5 steps locked behind Technician Mode
  • 1
Step 1 — Monitor Enable Status While Operating the Switch: Monitor PTO enable status in live data while operating the switch. Confirm whether the status changes when the switch is activated.
  • 2
Step 2 — Measure Voltage and Continuity at the Switch: Measure voltage at the switch connector and continuity through the switch contacts when activated.
  • 3
Step 3 — Check Continuity of Enable Wire to ECM or Body Controller: Perform continuity test on the enable wire from the switch to the ECM or body controller. Identify any open segments.
  • 4
Step 4 — Inspect Fuses and Power Feeds: Check all fuses in the PTO enable circuit and verify power feed voltage.
  • 5
Step 5 — Verify Related Interlocks Are Satisfied: Verify neutral, park, and brake interlocks are in the required state for PTO operation.
  • 6
Step 6 — Isolate Body-Builder Circuits: Isolate body-builder circuits if needed to identify whether the open is on the chassis or body side.
