P008A — Low Pressure Fuel System Pressure Too Low

P008A — Low Pressure Fuel System Pressure Too Low

P008A sets when low-side fuel pressure falls below the calibrated threshold. Volume and pressure testing before pump replacement prevents unnecessary lift-pump replacement when filters or air intrusion are the actual cause. Measure volume as well as pressure — a pump can produce adequate pressure but insufficient volume.

Fault Overview

Failed lift pump, restricted filters, air intrusion, and wiring faults are the primary causes. Prime the system thoroughly after filter changes. Air intrusion is extremely common after filter service.

Symptoms

  • •P008A
  • •low pressure fuel system
  • •lift pump pressure low

Possible Causes

  1. 1.Failed lift pump
  2. 2.Restricted fuel filters
  3. 3.Air intrusion
  4. 4.Wiring faults
  5. 5.Restricted tank pickup screen

Diagnostic Flow — FSM Sequence

AI Diesel Tech enforces this evidence-gate sequence. Each gate must pass before advancing.

3 steps locked behind Technician Mode
  • 1
Step 1 — Measure Low-Side Pressure and Volume: Measure low-side pressure and volume at the lift-pump outlet. Both must meet OEM minimums.
  • 2
Step 2 — Check Filters and Pump Power: Check fuel filters for restriction and verify lift-pump power and ground.
  • 3
Step 3 — Check for Air Intrusion: Check for air intrusion in the fuel system. Prime thoroughly after any filter service.
  • 4
Step 4 — Repair Supply Issues: Repair the identified supply issue — filters, air leak, or lift pump.
