Cruise Control Set / Resume / Coast Switch Circuit Faults
Cruise set/resume/coast switch faults are diagnosed by monitoring each switch individually and checking column wiring before module replacement.

Fault Overview
Circuit or data faults on the cruise set, resume, coast, or accelerate switches. The ECM detects voltage or state inconsistencies that prevent normal cruise operation.
Engine & Platform Coverage
Symptoms
- •Cruise set switch fault
- •Resume switch code
- •Coast switch fault
- •Cruise buttons not working
- •Steering wheel cruise switches inoperative
Possible Causes
- 1.Failed multifunction switch or stalk
- 2.Open or shorted wiring in the column
- 3.Clock-spring issues on steering-wheel switches
- 4.Aftermarket switch installation
- 5.ECM input fault
Diagnostic Flow — FSM Sequence
AI Diesel Tech enforces this evidence-gate sequence. Each gate must pass before advancing.
5 steps locked behind Technician Mode- 1Step 1 — Monitor Each Cruise Switch Status in Live Data: Monitor each cruise switch status (set, resume, coast, accelerate) individually in live data while pressing each button. Identify which specific switch is not responding correctly.
- 2Step 2 — Measure Voltage or Resistance at the Switch and ECM: Measure voltage or resistance at the switch connector and at the ECM input. Compare to expected values for each switch position.
- 3Step 3 — Perform Wiggle Test on Column and Harness: Perform a wiggle test on the steering column and harness while monitoring switch status. Dropouts during wiggling confirm an intermittent connection.
- 4Step 4 — Check Clock Spring Continuity: Check clock spring continuity if the switches are steering-wheel mounted. Clock spring failure is a common cause of intermittent or dead steering-wheel cruise buttons.
- 5Step 5 — Isolate Aftermarket Components: Isolate any aftermarket steering wheels or switches and retest.
- 6Step 6 — Verify Related Enable and Inhibit Inputs Are Good: Verify cruise enable and all inhibit inputs are good before concluding the switch is the fault.
